In this episode of the Manhattans Project, special guest Brian McGinnis from Microsoft joins me to talk about ISVs, the Azure Marketplace and how customers and partners benefit from the developing ISV ecosystem. What is an ISV, and how does Microsoft define its relationship with them? Which of the “aaS” areas are ISVs impacting the most in Azure? Let’s find out!
Michael: From your side of the table, where are you seeing ISVs coming from, what are they and what do they do?
Brian: We’re seeing ISVs align with some of the core pillars of Azure. If we think about transforming the data center, for instance, there are ISV solutions out there like Commvault, Riverbed or Nasuni. They’re complementary to a lot of Microsoft solutions, but they’re helping customers transform their data center and their storage capabilities. Another pillar would be application modernization. Now, that’s not necessarily re-platforming someone’s application or simply scaling through the cloud, but it’s also what [10th Magnitude] is doing with Chef. Or there are companies like Puppet, Docker and Mesosphere where you are automating the development and testing and then the deployment of an existing application.
Brian: Then we have the IoT space and advanced analytics, which is where we see a lot of excitement today. Companies are transforming their business with these components. You have Cloudera, Hortonworks and similar where we can get partners in there and really unlock the data that customers have. We’re able to create monetization and revenue paths with the data they haven’t been able to utilize in the past. That’s really the power some of these ISV solutions have unlocked for some of our customers and helped our partners enhance their existing practice areas.
